Helldivers 2: How to Find & Destroy Spore Spewers

Spore Spewers are a different type of Terminid threat that you need to eliminate in Helldivers 2. Not to be confused with the acid-spitting Bile Spewers, Spore Spewers are giant, glowing mushroom stalks that have no way to damage you or your teammates. They can only create a heavy fog around themselves to conceal all enemies in the area, making it almost impossible for you to see ahead.

The good news is that destroying a Spore Spewer will immediately clear the fog. However, finding the hellish structure is easier said than done when you have lost your sense of direction and can hardly see past a couple of feet. Here are some ways (and tips) to easily find Spore Spewers and eliminate them from the map in Helldivers 2.

How to Find Spore Spewers in Helldivers 2

Helldivers 2: How to Find & Destroy Spore Spewers

Spore Spewers can only be found on the Terminid-infested planets which lie inside the gold-colored (right-side) zones of the Galactic War map. You need to play Helldivers 2 missions at Challenging difficulty (level 4) or higher for a chance to encounter them.

If you see a dense layer of yellow-gray mist covering the ground ahead, it is because there is a Spore Spewer inside. You can find a higher vantage point to spot the tall mushroom-like growth above eye level, or run straight into the fog and search for the hive structure the old-fashioned way. There is, however, another way that most players do not know about.

Spore Spewers appear as a red dot on the mini-map just like any other enemy. They are roughly the size of a light bug nest. When near (or inside) the thick fog, open the mini-map and start placing markers on the nearby danger zones in Helldivers 2. If a red dot turns into a square on the mini-map, you have found the location of the Spore Spewer.

This technique works for all side objectives in Helldivers 2. You do not need to find a Radar Station to reveal all the points of interest on the map. You can do the same by dropping random markers to confirm their locations. This is an unintended exploration mechanic, meaning that developer Arrowhead Game Studios will probably patch it out in the future.

How to Destroy Spore Spewers

Now comes the easy part. Spore Spewers do not have much health. They are neither as strong as their bulky structures suggest nor as the newly added Shrieker Nests in Helldivers 2.

It takes only a few hits to destroy a Spore Spewer in Helldivers 2 with any primary or support weapon. The Grenade Launcher and Autocannon, for example, take around two shots each. The highly popular EAT-17 takes only one shot to bring down a Spore Spewer. You can also use the Railgun in unsafe mode in Helldivers 2, but it takes a lot more shots compared to the aforementioned explosive weapons.

Your primary weapons work equally well if you do not have a support weapon. Shotguns are effective against Spore Spewers even at a distance of 200 meters. The same goes for assault rifles. The PLAS-1 Scorcher takes around five shots to destroy a Spore Spewer, so that is another pro to add to its table.

There is no need to waste your stratagems such as Orbital Cannons, Eagle Strikes, or Sentries on a Spore Spewer. Save them for something else.
