Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering feels like a match made in heaven, so much so that they've crossed over multiple times in the past. It should be no surprise then that they've teamed up again, as Wizards of the Coast has announced that a whopping five new Secret Lairs will be released in celebration of the tabletop game's 50th anniversary.
These sets will include a variety of different monsters and characters from across the last 50 years of Dungeons & Dragons, and two Secret Lairs have characters made popular by Baldur's Gate 3 as their focus. Both Astarion and Karlach have been in Magic: The Gathering before, as the price of her previous card shot up after the release of Baldur's Gate 3, but these are, of course, new sets with new cards. Each set is listed below:
– Secret Lair x Dungeons & Dragons: An Exhibition of Adventure
– Secret Lair x Dungeons & Dragons: Astarion's Thirst
– Secret Lair x Dungeons & Dragons: Karlach's Rage
– Secret Lair x Dungeons & Dragons: Death is in the Eyes of the Beholder I
– Secret Lair x Dungeons & Dragons: Death is in the Eyes of the Beholder II
If you want to grab any of these sets, they'll be available later this month on the official Secret Lair website or the D&D Beyond Marketplace. Each standard set will set you back a total of $29.99, while the Foil Editions are a little bit pricier at $39.99. Unfortunately, these sets are limited edition, so we may run into similar issues to the Monty Python Secret Lair drop from last month.
Those that tried to actually grab one of those sets will know that it was rough, as it sold out within a single hour. Understandably, people were pretty annoyed, which forced Magic: The Gathering head designer Mark Rosewater to come out and tell fans that he was passing along the feedback to Wizards of the Coast. We'll have to see whether that bears fruit or not, but it's looking like we may be in for another rough ride if you want these D&D Secret Lairs.
